The Psalms
The LORD Is My Shepherd
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
Psalm 23:1–2
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
What is happening
Psalm 23 is one of the best-known psalms in the world, attributed to David, who was a shepherd before he was a king. It pictures God as a shepherd who provides, rests and guides.
Why it matters
It is read at weddings and funerals alike, because it speaks to every season: to want for nothing, to be led, and not to be alone even in the darkest valley (verse 4).
Scales
- Small, 12 × 16 in — More intimate. The work sits within the room rather than leading it.
- Classic, 18 × 24 in — Our natural starting point: present enough to hold the wall, with room to breathe around it.
- Large, 24 × 32 in — More presence across the room. The work becomes a stronger architectural element.
