Sodom and Gomorrah
Mercy walked the family out of the night, and the road ahead was all light.
Genesis 18:20–22, 19:1–29; Luke 17:28–32
Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven. Genesis 19:24
What is happening
Two angels come to Lot in Sodom and warn him to take his family to safety. At dawn, because he lingers, the angels take hold of the hands of Lot, his wife and his two daughters and lead them out of the city, "the LORD being merciful unto him." They are told to escape to the mountain and not to look back, and the family runs toward a new morning. Later it is written that "God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow" (Genesis 19:29).
Why it matters
The story holds judgment and mercy together. The angels took the family by the hand, and "God remembered Abraham" (19:29). Jesus uses it as a warning not to look back: "Remember Lot's wife" (Luke 17:32).

- Large, 24 × 32 in — More presence across the room. The work becomes a stronger architectural element.
