The Words of Jesus

My Lord and My God

My LORD and my God.

John 20:27–28

Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God.

What is happening

Thomas was not with the others when the risen Jesus first appeared to them, and he said he would not believe unless he could touch the wounds. A week later Jesus returns.

Why it matters

Thomas's doubt becomes the strongest confession in the Gospels: my Lord and my God.

Scales

  • Small, 12 × 16 in — More intimate. The work sits within the room rather than leading it.
  • Classic, 18 × 24 in — Our natural starting point: present enough to hold the wall, with room to breathe around it.
  • Large, 24 × 32 in — More presence across the room. The work becomes a stronger architectural element.
