The Words of Jesus
Ye Are My Friends
I have called you friends.
John 15:15
Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
What is happening
Jesus says this to his disciples on the night before his death, after the supper, as they walk toward the Mount of Olives.
Why it matters
A servant is told what to do; a friend is told everything. He calls them friends.
Scales
- Small, 12 × 16 in — More intimate. The work sits within the room rather than leading it.
- Classic, 18 × 24 in — Our natural starting point: present enough to hold the wall, with room to breathe around it.
- Large, 24 × 32 in — More presence across the room. The work becomes a stronger architectural element.
