The Words of Jesus
Washing the Disciples' Feet
I have given you an example.
John 13:14–15
If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
What is happening
At the Last Supper, Jesus rises from the table, wraps a towel around himself and washes his disciples' feet, the work of a servant.
Why it matters
The Lord and Master takes the lowest place, and tells them to do the same.
Scales
- Small, 12 × 16 in — More intimate. The work sits within the room rather than leading it.
- Classic, 18 × 24 in — Our natural starting point: present enough to hold the wall, with room to breathe around it.
- Large, 24 × 32 in — More presence across the room. The work becomes a stronger architectural element.
