The Greats of the Old Testament
The Giants in the Earth
Even giants stand small before the One who made the earth.
Genesis 6:1–4; Numbers 13:33
There were giants in the earth in those days. Genesis 6:4
What is happening
When people multiplied on the earth, "the sons of God" took wives from the daughters of men. The LORD said that his spirit would not always strive with man and that his days would be a hundred and twenty years. "There were giants in the earth in those days," mighty men of renown. Later Israel's scouts see the sons of Anak, and feel "as grasshoppers" beside them (Numbers 13:33).
Why it matters
The earth was full of strength and fame, and it was still filled with violence (6:11). The story asks what greatness is worth when it forgets God.
Scales
- Small, 12 × 16 in — More intimate. The work sits within the room rather than leading it.
- Classic, 18 × 24 in — Our natural starting point: present enough to hold the wall, with room to breathe around it.
- Large, 24 × 32 in — More presence across the room. The work becomes a stronger architectural element.
