The Words of Jesus

Seek Ye First

Seek ye first the kingdom of God.

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

What is happening

This is from the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus tells his listeners not to be anxious about food, drink or clothing.

Why it matters

Order matters: put the kingdom first and the rest is looked after, the way the birds and the lilies are.

Scales

  • Small, 12 × 16 in — More intimate. The work sits within the room rather than leading it.
  • Classic, 18 × 24 in — Our natural starting point: present enough to hold the wall, with room to breathe around it.
  • Large, 24 × 32 in — More presence across the room. The work becomes a stronger architectural element.
