The Psalms
Be Still
Be still, and know.
Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
What is happening
Psalm 46 is a psalm of confidence that sings of God as refuge while the earth shakes. Its tenth verse is the quietest line in it.
Why it matters
In the middle of the storm, the instruction is not to do but to be still. The stillness is where it is known.
Scales
- Small, 12 × 16 in — More intimate. The work sits within the room rather than leading it.
- Classic, 18 × 24 in — Our natural starting point: present enough to hold the wall, with room to breathe around it.
- Large, 24 × 32 in — More presence across the room. The work becomes a stronger architectural element.
